Fadjar Widjaksana Kandar, the founder of Kandar & Partners, is a legal practitioner with more than 23 years’ experience. He is recognised as a leading Indonesian lawyer in the energy and natural resources as well as infrastructure sectors.

Fadjar obtained his Sarjana Hukum (equivalent to Bachelor of Laws) degree majoring in Civil Law from Universitas Katolik Parahyangan in 1991, his Master of Laws (LL.M) specialising in International Business and Corporate Law from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1998, and his MBA in International Business from John Hopkins University in 2000.

Before establishing Kandar & Partners, Fadjar was a partner in Soemadipradja & Taher. Prior to this, he worked for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in its Singapore office for more than 4 years and previously for Mochtar Karuwin & Komar for more than 5 years.

Fadjar’s main areas of practice include energy and natural resources (particularly mining, oil and gas), infrastructure (including toll road, water and electricity), project finance, corporate, M&As, foreign investments, telecommunication, aviation and shipping.

Fadjar has been named by Asialaw as one of the Leading Lawyers in Asia, recognised as a Leading Energy & Natural Resources Lawyer for two consecutive years, i.e. 2014 and 2015.

He was also recognised as Leading Corporate Governance Lawyer and a Leading Regulatory and Government Lawyer by Asialaw. Further, Fadjar is recently named as a recipient of 2015 Corporate LiveWire – Global Awards in the Energy & Natural Resources category.
